Enugu state, one of the south-eastern states in Nigeria, just like any other state or city in the country has its residential challenges. Here we will break down 4 Common Residential Challenges in Enugu State.

According to Wikipedia, Enugu is the capital of Enugu State in Nigeria. It is located in southeastern Nigeria. The name Enugu is derived from the two Igbo words Énú Ụ́gwụ́ meaning “hill top” denoting the city’s hilly geography. The city was named after Enugwu Ngwo, under which coal was found.

The state consists  of 17 local government areas grouped into 3 zones that are otherwise known as senatorial districts or zones The 3 senatorial zones of Enugu state are:

  • Enugu East
  • Enugu North
  • Enugu West

Enugu East senatorial zone of Enugu state has 6 local government areas. The 6 local government areas of Enugu East senatorial district are:

  • Enugu North
  • Enugu South
  • Isi Uzo
  • Nkanu East
  • Nkanu West

Enugu North senatorial zone of Enugu state has 6 local government areas. The 6 local government areas of Enugu North senatorial zone are:

  • Igbo Etiti
  • Igbo Eze North
  • Igbo Eze South
  • Nsukka
  • Udenu
  • Uzo Uwani

Enugu West senatorial district has 5 local government areas. The 5 local government areas of Enugu West senatorial district are:

  • Aninri
  • Awgu
  • Ezeagu
  • Oji River
  • Udi

4 Common Residential Challenges in Enugu State

Just like any other city or state in the world, residents of Enugu face couple of challenges which anyone considering relocating to Enugu should know. Below are four common challenges faced by residents in Enugu State.

1. Lack of Water Supply

Water is the most essential basic need of life, without which, living will be very difficult or impossible. Absence of portable water can prompt a great deal of issues, for example, sickness, messy environment and reduced standard of living.

Unfortunately, this is one of the perennial problems faced by most people who resides in Enugu state. Because of this, the vast majority of the residents have resorted to sourcing for water through alternative means. Some of the common alternatives include buying water from private water suppliers, well water and constructing reservoir for rain water.

2. Lack of Good Road Network within Some Areas of the State

Without disputing the fact that Enugu can boost of good road in some areas of the state, some areas however still have issues with poor road network and has posed serious problems and distress to the residents. Mobility in such areas are difficult leading to hardship, regular road accidents and slow pace of development in such neighborhoods.

3. Poor Power Supply

Poor power supply is not peculiar to enugu state; as most state in Nigeria share in this horrible experience of having to do without light for so many hours in a day, weeks and months sometimes.
