Enugu State was created during military regime on the 27th of August 1991 by the then military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida. The state has witnessed many administrations, structural and infrastructural development. The well thought out plan of the state, cool environment and security are some of the reasons many people prefer to live and do business in Enugu. The state has good landscape and temperate weather conditions all year round. Enugu is predominantly occupied by the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbos have two important annual traditional festivals; the New Yam festival and the Mmanwu festival. The new yam festival also known as ‘Iwa Ji, is a yearly celebration which usually comes up between August and October marking the harvesting of new yam. Yam is a root tuber, rich with carbohydrate and a cultural symbol for the Igbo people since it is loved and enjoyed many. The Mmanwu festival usually takes place towards the end of the year and features various types of masquerades. Other notable festivals in Enugu include the Enugu Festival of Arts which was established in 1986 and has been attracting prominent people from around the country and beyond.

Ngwo cave and waterfall
Ngwo Caves and Waterfall in Enugu is a wonderful place to see, it is naturally rounded with beautiful trees. The waterfall forms a shallow pool at the cave floor and flows out as a small stream and also has both warm and hot water that flows out together from one source. Student excursion, picnic and other outdoor activities can be held there.
Ezeagu tourist complex
Ezeagu Tourist Complex: The complex is located at the south-central pan of the State. With beautiful natural aesthetics, the complex is the perfect spot for family vacations and get together with friends.
Shoprite: The shopping mall is located at old polo park opposite the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), an investment owned by South Africa. Shoprite are among the top Multi shopping mall in Enugu State.
Spar: This shopping facility is situated at independence layout, close to Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Independence layout Enugu. It is also a multi shopping mall and a choice marketplace for many residents of Enugu.
Awhum cave and waterfall
Awhum Cave and Waterfall: Awhum cave is located in Awhum, Udi Local government. The waterfall is believed to a miraculous water with enormous healing potential. Many worshipers especially Catholics go there for prayers and to collect the miracle water with containers.
Iheneke Lake is a cool and serene environment with luxury green pasture. The lake environment is very chilling during the harmattan season. It is a perfect place for relaxation, picnics and other leisure activities.
